On Peaceable Inner Sight

The lamp of the body is the eye.

If therefore thine eye be single (“haplous”: undivided, whole, clear, good), thy whole body shall be full of light.

But if thine eye be evil (“poneros”: bad, impaired, afflicted, unclear), thy whole body shall be full of darkness.

If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness (darkened), how great is that darkness (compared to physical blindness)!

Matthew 6:22-23

Outer physical sight is important for understanding and well-being, but inner metaphysical sight eternally more so.

In other words, having darkened vision is bad but having a darkened psyche is much worse!

The lamp of the psyche is spirit. What kind of spirit illuminates your psyche?

There are plenty to choose from. Perhaps the spirit of envy? The spirit of ambition? The spirit of anxiety? The spirit of resentment? The spirit of revenge?

Such influences darken the soul and lead to getting “stuck” on the path to love and inner peace.

And he spake a parable unto them,

Can the (spiritually) blind lead the (spiritually) blind? Shall they not both fall into the ditch?

Luke 6:39

On the other hand, if your psyche is illuminated by the holy spirit, you will find the way much easier and less burdensome.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power (strength), and of love, and of a sound mind (self-control).

2 Timothy 1:7

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am meek (“praus”: power under control) and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls (psyches).

For my yoke is easy (“chrestos”: useful and pleasant), and my burden is light.

Matthew 11:28-30

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep (guard, protect) your hearts (feelings) and minds (thoughts) through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:7
